Kitchen Quiz Episode 13 Roberta Hall-McCarron
Award winning chef and acclaimed restaurateur Roberta Hall-McCarron is one of the most innovative and exciting chefs currently working in the UK. She opened The Little Chartroom in 2018, Eleanore in 2021 and Ardfern in 2024, all in the wonderful city of Edinburgh.
Her first cookbook The Changing Tides – A Cookbook was extremely well received by the press, the general public and her fellow chefs, and was celebrated for shining a light on the abundance and quality of Scottish produce and how it inspired her delicious, hyper-seasonal approach to cooking.
We at KP HQ were very proud to work with her on the book and we recently caught up with Roberta to ask her a few questions for our Kitchen Quiz.

1. Was there a cookbook that really inspired you?
My favourite cook book changes, I’m really enjoying Phil Howard’s volume 2 desserts just now.

2. What is your favourite item in your kitchen that you simply couldn’t do without?
Super simple – a silicone spatula, it’s great to cook with, but also gets every last drop out of any container/bowl.

3. Do you have a favourite song, type of music or podcast you like to cook to?
I love music from the 80s, in particular Fleetwood Mac.
My favourite podcast right now is the Go to food podcast it delves into the journey that each guest they have has had, which is fascinating getting to hear how it all started for so many of my peers.
4. If you could cook anywhere in the world in any location then where would you choose?
San Sebastián.

It’s one of my fav places to eat and I love the produce and vibe of the pintxos bars. I’d love to do a long table dinner with lots of Scottish inspired pintxos, using Spanish ingredients.

5. If you had to give one single piece of advice about cooking to someone then what would that be?
Experiment and have fun, and make sure you write it all down!
Thank you Roberta for sharing with us all x
